Our wedding officiant emailed us some materials to help us decide what kind of ceremony we want. Included were sample vows.
Here is my favorite one -- that is, the one I enjoyed reading the most...ie, no, we aren't using these, um, yeah, no. My comments in brackets.
Groom: N, in one movie, the character played by Tom Cruise discovers whom he really loves. He tells her, "You complete me." as he continues pouring out his love to her, begging her to join him, the object of his love interrupts him and says, "Stop. You had me when you said Hello." I'm no Tom Cruise [or as I would say it, I happen to be known as the Asian Tom Cruise...] but N, you complete me. With you, I feel whole and fulfilled. When I am with you, I am the person I know I can be. You bring out of me things I never knew where there [eww.] but somehow you saw them. I love you and I want nothing more than to give myself to you as your husband, and for us to live together -- forever -- as husband and wife, friends and lovers, fulfilled and complete.
Another good one:
Groom: N, someone wrote, "Don't fall in love with a dreamer." I am that dreamer, and you are my dream. If our love is what others would call a dream, I wish to dream on, and I will do all in my power to protect the dream, to erect a Noble Wall around the treasure of our love. As your husband, I promise to continue the dream-building, by listening to your ideas, supporting your efforts, cherishing your personhood and sharing myself.
Good times. Dream-build on!
The Asian Tom Cruise, dreaming-building the dream
