The Pacifist

The WoW Pacifist Undead Priest / Gnome Rogue blog is a great read. Fascinating blog about a guy who plays World of Warcraft with characters who try not to kill anything. Considering the core game mechanic of pretty much all RPGs is to go kill 50 rats to collect 10 rat molars, etc... Good stuff.

Keighley's great new show

I like Geoff Keighly and his new show is fantastic. Easily best show about video games on TV, better than anything on G4. While you can watch it on Spike, its better online so you can see it in HiDef.

GTA IV Hitting Streets Worldwide on April 29

My first thought was w00t. This is one of my most anticipated games of the year. And thank god it didn't slip until later this year... whew.

Taxpayers would get checks under economic stimulus plan

According to this report, $600 per individual, $1200 per couple, plus $300 per child. Awesome. Plasma for the bathroom!

Damn you Snyder.

Horrible news. A new coach and new coordinators? And Fassel? Blah. Bye bye playoffs for another decade.

New family deserves a new name

Have you heard of couples who - rather than taking one another's names - instead, come up with a new family name after they are married? I think that is a great idea. Please vote on my poll as to what name you think would suit us best.

Here are my ideas:
Megen and Ashley Skywalker, aka The Skywalkers
Megen and Ashley Luc Piccard, aka The Luc Piccards
Megen and Ashley Sulu, aka The Sulus
Megen and Ashley Joystiq-Kotaku, aka the Joystiq-Kotaku's
Megen and Ashley Cosades, aka the Cosades

Spring semester

I registered for Spring classes, they start this week. ITEC 620 Information Technology Infrastructure, and UCSP 611 Introduction to Graduate Library Research Skills (this one is a required class within the first 6 credits). They will probably be as exciting as they sound...

Wedding blog updates

Have they picked a first song yet? Which hotels are the room blocks at? Should I fly into National or Dulles? Do Residence Inns have a full kitchen or just a kitchenette? Is the wedding still on? Is Nathan really going to wear a tux with actual dress shoes? So, wedding plans are underway, and the newly launched www.megenandashley.com is all a buzz! I posted a feed on the upper right hand side to the wedding blog so friends and family can stay instantly up to date on what's happening. Think of it as your own gossip blog...

Wedding update

I created a site for our wedding - www.megenandashley.com. Meg designed our Save the Date magnets, we'll be getting those out in the mail shortly. We're heading off to a wedding show next weekend and then shopping for paper in Alexandria.

We had dinner with the best man, Matt, and my groomsmen, Nate and Mike, last night at Hunan Delight where Meg had the pleasure of watching the four of us eat ourselves to death. It was a great dinner.

Sounds fun

Saturday update

Megen's work had their holiday party last night at the Bethesda North Marriott. Really beautiful hotel. My company is getting too big for our usual holiday party spot at the Pooks Hill Marriott - Bethesda North would be a great upgrade for next year. The food was good and there was dancing. I got a chance to meet Megen's co-workers.

At work today, poking around really tedious file searches.

Made reservations at Sushi Damo, a new place we've wanted to try in the newly rebuilt Rockville Town Center. Then we're going to go see Juno.

Really good developer diary on the Brotherhood of Steel. I love the concept art, as well. The Fallout wiki has a great summary on the Brotherhood of Steel, good read. I wrote a bethblog entry about ramping up hiring for QA testers. I also noticed a lot of keyword google hits on my blog about Shivering Isles and how to start it, so I updated our Shivering Isles troubleshooting FAQ.

Redskins' Gibbs Resigns As Coach

Sad news. I had mentioned to someone on Monday that I thought Gibbs might not come back as coach. I thought he would stay on as president and continue to run the Redskins as an organization. He will be missed.

o-line

Offensive line should be a priority next year, it just fell apart this year due to injuries. The Redskins will have a mid to late first round pick next year - just hope they didn't trade it away.

Nostalgia for a form can be annihilating to creativity

Entertainment Weekly (EW) column this past week was about science fiction movies/TV lack of new ideas, really liked this quote:

Nostalgia for a form can be annihilating to creativity, so while its devotees are swamped in their own canon, trying to mine now-sacred texts for any new material, I wish a great writer or director with no particular affection for the genre would let his imagination loose and see what it yields.

JJ Abram's take on Star Trek, I hope, will be good. I wish someone would do big space operas either on TV or film, like Asimov's Foundation books, or Dan Simmon's Hyperion books. Orson Scott Card's Ender movie doesn't seem to be coming anytime soon. I miss Firefly. Battlestar Galactica is great but ending. Maybe I'll start working my way through Babylon Five on DVD, heard it was good.

Best name for music school

Hmmm, Saturday

I'm at work today and tomorrow, lots to do, lots of stuff going on. I was on break for so long I started dreaming of work. Very glad to be back. This is going to be an awesome year - both at work and at home, too.

Looking forward to watching Redskins in playoff game later.
