The Dark Knight

My geek over floweth. What a great movie. Tim Burton's dark, goth fantasy Batman will always have a special place in my heart, but Christopher Nolan's Batman - holy mackers, not just a comic book adaptation, but a full on work of cinematic art.
Good stuff. I don't usually see a movie on opening night anymore, or really in theater -- we mostly watch movies at home these days; glad we went to see this.
My only complaint - we didn't get to see the Watchmen or Terminator teaser. We got Bolt instead. Yes, Bolt :'(
I was hoping for this:
Instead, we got this:

Tasting
Finally, we get to do a food tasting. Its the sole reason for me to have a wedding (besides starting a new life together with a wonderful woman, of course)
But tasting. Yeah. Awesome.
We're also heading into DC to get blood tests done and to visit the courthouse. Then we head into Old Town so Meg can check out hair salon, and I'm scoping out places for a drinks, we're looking into having people together after the rehearsal dinner.
But tasting. Food. Awesome.
OK, off we go. Taking the day off today to make sure the tasting gets my full attention.

E3 anticipation
![]()
I'm looking forward to a week of distractions, as the game industry goes nuts and spews forth lots of big news announcements, screenshots and videos.
Here are the games I'm most excited to hear about this year:
Prince of Persia - Its like the dev team decided to mate POP with Ico. This is easily one of my most anticipated games. I loved Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, one of my all time favorites.
Bioshock 2 - will 2K talk about it? Who knows. I hope so.
Bungie's next project - another one that I doubt will be on display, but would be cool.
Brutal Legend - Me want to play this.
Indiana Jones - Star Wars Unleashed looks pretty cool, but Indy is the one I truly want to play.
Alpha Protocol - Spy rpg? Sign me up.
Champions Online - Superhero rpg. hmmmm. yum.
GTA DLC - Anything about this? Bueller? If I may, I would suggest you let us go to a European city, maybe London or Paris. Thanks.
Infinity Ward's next game, Jade Empire 2, Mass Effect 2, KOTOR 3, Dead Rising 2 - unlikely to hear anything about these but I can hope, can't I?

It's the iPocalypse
I updated in the morning around 8 AM, before the stores opened, and managed to get my IPhone updated before the crash. Everybody at work waited until getting into office to update their phones and they are all bricked right now. Except for me.
Early impressions:
the App Store is awesome. Monkey Ball is really hard. Enigmo is addictive, highly recommended.

Where the hell is Matt video - pretty awesome
Where the Hell is Matt? (2008) from Matthew Harding on Vimeo.
This is one of the most amazing videos I've ever seen. Great music, visuals, poetic, funny. Everyone needs to watch this. NYTimes has a great article on this, too.
Thanks to Dubious Quality.

The Asian Tom Cruise, dreaming-building the dream

Our wedding officiant emailed us some materials to help us decide what kind of ceremony we want. Included were sample vows.
Here is my favorite one -- that is, the one I enjoyed reading the most...ie, no, we aren't using these, um, yeah, no. My comments in brackets.
Groom: N, in one movie, the character played by Tom Cruise discovers whom he really loves. He tells her, "You complete me." as he continues pouring out his love to her, begging her to join him, the object of his love interrupts him and says, "Stop. You had me when you said Hello." I'm no Tom Cruise [or as I would say it, I happen to be known as the Asian Tom Cruise...] but N, you complete me. With you, I feel whole and fulfilled. When I am with you, I am the person I know I can be. You bring out of me things I never knew where there [eww.] but somehow you saw them. I love you and I want nothing more than to give myself to you as your husband, and for us to live together -- forever -- as husband and wife, friends and lovers, fulfilled and complete.
Another good one:
Groom: N, someone wrote, "Don't fall in love with a dreamer." I am that dreamer, and you are my dream. If our love is what others would call a dream, I wish to dream on, and I will do all in my power to protect the dream, to erect a Noble Wall around the treasure of our love. As your husband, I promise to continue the dream-building, by listening to your ideas, supporting your efforts, cherishing your personhood and sharing myself.
Good times. Dream-build on!

Snapfish special - 4x6 prints for 1 cent
We need some pics for the wedding - for various decorative touches. We have a usable photo printer on our scanner, though the ink dries out often, so I'm dubious if its actually worth the convenience. Just got this email offer this morning. Snapfish is offering 50 4x6 prints for 50 cents. That's a pretty amazing deal, and cheaper per print than printing it on our own, especially considering I need to refill the stupid ink again.
I've never used Snapfish, no idea if the prints are good quality or not, but for less than a dollar, I'm willing to try it! The offer looks like it expires 7/12. Coupon code: JUL4PENNY08
Filming ‘The Road’

Cormac McCarthy's The Road is a fantastic book. I'm actually about to read it again. This is a great article about the filming of the movie. Omar from The Wire (Michael Kenneth Williams) is in it! w00t!

Coming up from the shipwreck
So about this post. You know the one. I have nothing more interesting really to say about it. I would, however, like to thank Tom Chick's Fidgit -- a blog that never disappoints -- for nailing what was really going on (see his last sentence).
The upside to this is that I do have a new forum sig now -
Now, if you'll excuse me, there's a guy with a Cars blog that he started last month who is pissed that I forgot it on my Pixar movie list and he'd like more web traffic...

Article on Sid Meier
Meant to write about this last week. Great article on Sid Meier in Washington Post. I'm a big Civ fan, mostly played Civ 1 and 2. If I were to count up all the hours of gaming I've played in my life, I bet most of those hours were spent playing a Sid Meier game. I wish he would go back to the dinosaur game he was working on, would love an update to Gettysburg, or maybe a port of Sim Golf onto DS.

Last Dance Lesson
Tonight is our last dance lesson. Nope, we never practiced at home, but we will need to before the wedding. Last night, we picked our processional and recessional music, and went through the music for the reception. The DJ we are using lets us log onto a website and add music to our playlist, which is pretty slick.
